The Hayabusa incident

On October 22nd 2001, the career of a pro wrestling legend came to a screeching, tragic halt.

Hayabusa, the heart and soul of FMW, attempted a springboard moonsault from the middle rope. He lost his footing and landed directly on the top of his head – paralyzing him instantly and ending his career. He would never wrestle again.

Hayabusa was a unique masked wrestler who blended the hardcore ethos of his home promotion FMW, with a thrilling Lucha style of wrestling. He looked like a Mortal Kombat character and he pulled off moves that felt like they belonged in a video game. He was arguably the face of FMW in the late 90s and known throughout the world.

But I’d like to leave you on an upbeat here.. In 2015, after 14 years of being paralyzed, Hayabusa walked to the ring unassisted for the first time since his accident for a ceremonial 10 count. It is a truly moving moment and I have to warn you, if you go look it up online and watch it, it will make you cry.

Hayabusa (prime) vs. Rey Mysterio would be a dream match

It's crazy how it always seems that wrestlers who specialize in dangerous or high risk maneuvers get injured from seemingly mundane occurrences

My favorite wrestler from that era along with Lyger and Muta

Lucky enough to have witnessed the majority of his career. My brother 6 years older got a young me into ecw and fmw by 96.
He was the like a Japanese sabu, but twice the skills as a high flyer.

I am so sad to hear about his tragic injury and passing, but you also just really made my day because I had never heard of him until I saw your clip yesterday morning. His entrance theme is so beautiful, and my god the highlights. It must have been unbelievable to see him walk up that stage. A real extraordinary person.

My favorite of all time FMW, ECW the man broke his neck several times and as any crazy guy who loves the danger of sports, he kept coming back.

Even before that lionsault, he was shaky on the move before that.

the accident video used to be all over the internet with no context. without knowing anything about it, it just looks like a funny painful botch. often used in “try not to laugh” style videos. pretty sad story.

In my opinion he was or is the best wrestler I've ever seen. He's amazing, gone too soon.

Now that's a hero. All daddies are heroes and all that but to come off something like that it's extending and it makes me keep going with my physio and keep doing what I need to do. I need it to see this video. Thank you very much. God bless

Where can I find the video of him walking again

How many times had he performed that moonsault during his career? He could do it in his sleep, I'm sure. Just shows the margin for error in these types of moves is very small.

He tried to ground himself by unmasking and switching out to a more brawler-like wrestling style but he knew that his fans wanted Hayabusa

I just seen it today. I just came out of my Vizio and I was going to cancel it tomorrow

I've tried looking up the video of him walking but everything I find is on motorcycles can anybody give me a link to the video of him getting up out of his wheelchair. As a disabled person myself I think that would be cool to see
