This might be one of my favorite performances of this concerto. The third movement is often rushed in an effort to show off one's virtuosity. Mr. Shishkin seems to savor the chaotic emotions of this amazing composition.

Gergiev's hand movements are funny. Someone once complained about his not using a baton. After that he came out holding a toothpick.

He SAYS so much through his playing — much, much thought has gone into every single SECOND. This is not a fellow who feels he already gave his best performance last week, or is just marking through the piece — this guy is ENGAGED 100%, right now in THIS moment. What a thril!!!
