I bought 1 goat as a kid. It cried virtually nonstop. Always have them in 2 or more. It is illegal in areas to have them solo. The guy that rents them out should know better.

I read years ago that you don't want to just get one goat. You want to get a mate for the one goat and always have two goats so they can keep each other company because they do get separation anxiety

I've seen that some places in California are starting to move herds of goats around to keep down ground cover and reduce wildfire risk/intensity. That's pretty neat.

Goats are HERD animals. Elsa probably would have been fine if you had rented her a herd buddy at the same time.

My sister did this exact thing. Rented four goats for week. Her yard was insanely overgrown.

Those little guys went to town. When they came back out to pick them up, the owners brought a weed eater to clean up the few spots they missed.

Worked ridiculously well.

In our area, goats come in a herd for a day or two. They put up a small fence, which the goats know is their boundary. The owner of the herd comes out once a day to move the fence, and check on the goats.

This is going to be my new landscaping company idea, I show up at your house with 10 goats, break out a beer and some tunes, and chill out in a lawn chair until they are done eating everything in your yard

We kept three pygmy goats on 2 acres in the Santa Cruz mountains. We never had to mow the grass because they kept it nicely trimmed, but the best thing was they loved to eat scotch broom and poison oak, which otherwise would have been a PITA to keep cleared. The fire marshal said our property was one of the best maintained in terms of fire protection that he’d seen.

Goats eat brush, vines, and very little if any grass. So she will do a good job clearing back the brush. Sheep graze on grass. Goats love green tree leaves also. Our last nannie goat passed last month, the last of our herd. When her last goat friend passed away she started digging a hole up under our chicken house to have other animals nearby her. Goats make great herd protection from predators.

Goats make really good companions for race horses. Keeps the horse calm

Here in Ireland they’ve started using goats to maintain old cemeteries. They eat everything and don’t damage old headstones etc. like mowers and strimmers etc.

Goats are the heroes of our NYC Park system! Small herds chew the invasives off the high cliffs in Manhattan and the Bronx. (In that setting we do let them chew all the plants down to the root and a little beyond and simply re seed with native plants.) 🐐🐐🐐 They really are the G.O.A.T.!

Elsa, you're a movie star! ⭐ So precious the way she cuddled with you. Your plan for a for Forest garden sounds wonderful. I think it's going to work. And I'm glad you have such an understanding wife 🩷 and no HOA 👎🏻

We used electric fencing to keep a variety of animals in the paddocks. The goats were always the first critters to know if the fence wasn't working properly (half an hour). We would know soon after as the goats would be in the fruit trees or flower garden. They are smart as.

Hello from Canada! Your pipe and flashing fence video showed up in my feed today and now I'm going down the rabbit hole of your channel. Goats and a goat herder manage vegetation on the hillsides of the river valley that divides my small city. I'm guessing the purpose is to mitigate wildfire risk as we've had draught for a number of years. I've considered trying to rent a few for my own backyard which has a lot of lambsquarters volunteering as a cover crop for my lawn. Thanks to you, I know to rent sheep instead. You have a new subscriber!

I'm surprised the goat owner didn't insist that you rent more than one goat so Elsa wouldn't devolve into a bleating blob of goat anxiety. Poor Elsa!😭

Elsa looks adorable. Yes, a companion that will work with her will make both of them eat more.
On our little hobby farm, a few pigs churned up hard ground in no time. They snort roots right out of the ground with their powerful snouts, and over turn the soil in the process. They do a different type of work than goats.
As for those dry twigs that neither animal will eat, if you can safely burn it on the ground it will make soil more likely to grow mushrooms under the right conditions. Morels especially.
Thanks for this beautiful video.
