And if you cant find a suitable childhood toy then a find alternative is to give your youngest relative modelling clay and tell them to make a person

Honestly this sounds like a great idea for a game jam. Make a 5 minute demo with a spooky mascot, nonsense puzzles and plenty of LOAR for everyone to sink their teeth into.

So, you're saying if I put scary teeth on my bulldog plush I can make an indie horror mascot

Why do I feel like this video is trying to make fun of the more recent mascot horror games

Its funny because this is seemingly what indie horror has devolved into...I miss the times where RPG maker horror like Corpse Party and Mad Father where "the thing"

If I were to add "lore" to my indie game (which is a top down shooter), I'd leave some of it up to interpretation.

Like during a cutscene before a boss, the boss is revealed to be a Prototype 2, leading the protagonist to wonder what happened to Prototype 1, and it's never answered or even hinted as to what happened.

That, or rather brief pieces of lore (like, just a sentence or two) that the player has to go out of their way to find.

You forgotten to say the game need to have 7 chapters to be a good indie horror game

remember the game slender man? then came FNAF, and then came every other indie horror game after that.

We've gone from a creepypasta entity to pizza place animatronics, to 1930's cartoon characters, to neighbors, to edutainment games, to toys in a toy factory, and now we're at a literal kindergarten for children. Even the pretty good indie horror game, Amanda the Adventurer, is a horror game inspired by Dora the Explorer which is another thing we'd remember seeing as a child. All of these consist of things people would remember from their childhood and they've all been turned into horror games. Pretty soon everything we remember seeing as a child is gonna get it's own indie horror game. What's next? Cereal box mascots? Parents? Candy? Holiday Mascots? Imaginary Friends? Who

I just make games for fun. But this is so true

honestly the child friendly designs of these horror games does make them more terrifiying, just imagine going to a place that looks like a childhood memory to see monsters that arent even terrifying yet they still want to kill you, honestly if that was real it would be a smart way for monsters to get food to look as safe as possible

gotta love how overly communalized modern indie horror is

"*gurgle* No actually, the game's lore/story is very deep and good! Chapter 14 was very engaging. *drools* The gameplay is fun and smart! Have you even PLAYED it before???"
