I love how you explain the basics cos they're usually overlooked

Another reason why I found these useful is that most thread is cross wound, and having the spools spin around and unwind horizontally, as they do on most domestic machines, will twist the thread unnecessarily. Having it unravel vertically is actually how most thread is designed to be used.

I usually sew with black, navy and pink. You are right about those cones being more economical for any colors you use a lot of.

Thanks dude. You reminded me to get more that big thread rolls stuff, I have that cast iron stand. Feeling now a little bit fool for paying small rolls.... well "we live and learn"
You are doing good job. Thanks for the help and your time. Your efforts are appreciated 👍👏

I put on my serger and thread to my sewing machine. I don’t have much space so it’s my “hack” 😅

I learned - because my sewing machine always got the thread tangled - that some machines require the thread to be wound off the bobbin horizontally and some require it to be pulled off vertically. Since I have made the change to a thread stand, my thread tangles have gone down by over 90%. My sister threw out her sewing machine over this issue about 30 years ago. I kept mine, because I was just too stubborn to quit, but had given up on sewing over this issue, until recently. I had the machine re-conditioned, thinking that would solve the issue. When it didn't, I started researching and found out about the different ways thread is supposed to wind off the spool in different machines!

I have one of these, they're very handy, but mine is made of cheap compressed wood and E.V.A for the base. It does the job well

Let people know that the serger thread is different than the thread used on a straight stitch machine. They’re not interchangeable, for best results.

I have that thread stand, but I have yet to use it! I want to tackle twin needle sewing and I think I need the stand to do it.

I love the big cones. The base on mine is not cast iron...it needs to be weighted to be stable. My issue is with the thread cones: the cone itself is cheap plastic that dries, cracks & breaks easily. Broken cones will not unspool evenly. 😢

Did you get this after filming with your lovely mom, or just forgot you had it? :P I sew with cream/blush the most, as I'm usually repairing my clothes, and have a lot of neutral base items. I have 3 standard totes filled with the materials (in vacuum bags) for a mix of renaissance and modern projects, but so little drive to create them. :(
