Leonard Susskind - What is the Theory of Everything?

It is the Holy Grail of physics: All the particles and forces of nature unified and explained by equations so simple that you can print them on your tee shirt. Are we getting there? What would a 'final theory' of fundamental physics do? And if we find it, what will we know? Will we know everything?

Leonard Susskind is the Felix Bloch Professor of Theoretical Physics at Stanford University, and Director of the Stanford Institute for Theoretical Physics. He received a BS in physics from City College of New York and a PhD from Cornell University.

Closer to Truth presents the world’s greatest thinkers exploring humanity’s deepest questions. Discover fundamental issues of existence. Engage new and diverse ways of thinking. Appreciate intense debates. Share your own opinions. Seek your own answers.

I love this kind of scientist! At the top of his game but still humble, approachable and no BS science arrogant dogma. We need more of this kind.

Drs. Kuhn and Susskind are the best team (most lucid, easy to understand, yet profound) of interviewer-interviewee in all of physics, bar none! These dudes rock!

Interesting, humbling and fascinating.... As a trained physicist WITH the "philosophical gene, " I found this to be so intriguing and a breathe of fresh air!
I love when scientists or engineers can actually confront their ignorance and limitations... True masters are always humble!
Thanks for sharing, although I think this needs to be hours rather than several minutes long ;)
You are honestly bringing us closer to truth with this line of questioning!

I absolutely love your lectures Dr. Susskind! I’ve been a fan of you since 2012 when I first saw you on Through the Wormhole With Morgan Freeman. You put ideas in my head that changed the way I see the universe. *Thank you for that incredible gift* 😊📚🙌

what always baffles me, is how sharp the thoughts of very good physics professors are

I’m not a scientist. But I’m always so happy to watch Prof.Susskind’s interview even though I understand nothing much.

Please convey my deepest respect to Prof. Leonard's most refreshing and breathtaking view.
His argument that we are possibly tinkering with a very small area of a huge mechanism brings to my memory a small story :
A father and his young son were on their way out of a fancy hotel entertainment area, where they just had a good time and
enjoyed all the fancy drinks from the machines, watched the VR games on the screens, and ... and ...
The father directed his son to an ANT on the ground .... and asked him :
"Do you think that the ANT can ever imagine the complexity of all the machines, software driving them, the people
making the food, the accounting system calculating our bill, and charging it to our Visa card through the internet, etc..."
The point he was trying to make to his son was that the ANT cannot realize that she CANNOT realize ! Deep !

Truly fascinating discussion. Youtube randomly suggested this to me and ended up watching all the videos and some more videos from Dr. Susskind.

I think even with a might theory of everything we don't escape Wittgenstein idea
"We feel that even when all possible scientific questions have been answered, the problems of life remain completely untouched. Of course there are then no questions left, and this itself is the answer."

I like that he doesn’t pretend that science has all the answers.
