Kashmir | Heavy Snowfall Causes Major Disruptions

It is snowing in Kashmir. Seasons first major snowfall has caused major disruptions in Kashmir. MeT has forecast more snowfall and issued an orange color weather warning. People have been urged not to venture in avalanche prone areas. Jammu Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to landslides and shooting stones. The highway is the road ink connecting Valley with the rest of the country. Over a 1000 vehicles are stuck at many places along the highway. Flight operations in Kashmir have been hampered. Number of flights at the Srinagar Airport have been cancelled. Electricity has been cut in many places in Kashmir due to incessant snowfall. Kashmir is under the grip of 40-day long harsh spell of winter, known as ‘Chillai Kalan' which started from Dec 21.
