Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered a thorough and high-level investigation into the derailment of the Coromandel Express in Balasore, Odisha. Expressing his sorrow over the unfortunate incident, he mentioned that rescue operations were swiftly initiated as soon as the news reached the ministry. The purpose of the probe is to uncover the underlying causes behind the passenger train's coaches derailing.

Vaishnaw emphasized the significance of determining the root cause of the tragic accident and stated, "I have issued an order for a high-level probe to find out why this derailment happened. It is important to get to the root cause of this tragic accident." In addition, he announced compensation measures for the affected individuals. The families of the deceased will receive an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each, while Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the seriously injured and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries.
