Does the fire department have a charter? An a agreement prior that states they can't bring paid personnel, everybody is to be volunteer? They establish their own administration? and the town provides workers compensation insurance and relief funding? Maybe the fire trucks are owned by the membership? Maybe the fire house is owned by the membership?

When you get Firefighter I & II, you are brand new and know nothing. 10% is in class and 90% is in the field. Sure, wet stuff on the red stuff but I have never witnessed an exact scenario from the book you learn from. No time in the field, means not qualified.

If these guys got paid for work, and have to work was sitting around playing games and sleeping, I would tell him to take a long walk off a short pier. But these guys work for free, so why are they not allowed to pick the fire chief? Maybe there’s a good reason, I don’t know.

Looks like the small town good'ole boys club dictators didnt like the previous chief and ran him out. New chief polished some nobs and greased some palms to get the position. Sounds a lot like Marv "the killdozer" small town drama.

This kind of stuff has got to stop! The volunteers know what is best for the department! Big government comes in and the heck with the men & women that built that department! Put it to vote for the citizens & see where your uncertified " Chief" rates?? The county shouldn't have the right to just hire their good old boy friend & do as they please! Show some respect for the people who built the department with their own sweat & blood!
