MARTA and DeKalb County leaders recently traveled to see how San Diego has implemented two new high-capacity transit options to expand service - using bus rapid transit (BRT) for one corridor and light rail transit (LRT) for another corridor.

South Bay Rapid BRT
26 miles of transit
5,500 weekday ridership (projected)
$139 million construction cost

Mid-Coast Trolley Extension LRT
11 miles of transit
20,000 weekday ridership (projected)
$2.17 billion construction costs

so its "rapid transit" and they're building transit oriented development, but it only comes every 18 minutes? how is that a model to base future plans off of, a rapid transit line that comes less than 4 times an hour?

What we want is heavy rail to be expanded along with light rail

I do think brt and light rail Transit is great but the Atlanta area needs to expand its heavy rail

Heavy rail should take priority over all other solutions. When are we expanding to Druid Hills and Tucker?

I’m impressed with how MaRTA is doing in field analysis

SD light rail is exemplary for sharing track with double-stack freight trains.. which I don't think Atlanta is doing. The light rail in Waterloo Canada does this too

But Marta trains are higher capacity than SD light rail. Light rail and brt are cursed with driver shortages. Driver shortages are common where driver pay doesn't keep up with a country's wealth
