How Smart is Stan Pines?

Gravity Falls is an excellent show and one of the main reasons why is because Grunkle Stan is a brilliant character. Ofc, that's true for many instances except for intelligence. Or does it? Is Stan actually smarter than we give credit for?

My favorite detail is there is a moment in Tale of Two Stans where you can see some physics and science books off to the side of the mirror shot, implying that Stan, a man who cheated and flunked his way through high school, actually sat down and taught himself physics in order to operate the portal to get his brother back

Stanley while definitely a bum is a genius all through and through, knowing he reconstructed an inter-dimensional portal. Its just that his brother outshone him in academics and unintentionally crushed his spirit

To fix the portal for the most part and more so to use it one would have to assume he understands how it works. So he is for all intents a genius.

There's this page in Journal 3 that really annoys me. When Ford comes back and disregards Stan's efforts to fix the interdimensional portal, calling him a "monkey pretending to be a mechanic".

Like, bro...he taught himself quantum physics just to save you. Give credit where credit is due.

I remember watching this show and being so happy me and the characters were the same age at the time. It spoke to me so much since I’ve always been enthralled with the supernatural and scary things in general. I also love my family and the themes of family in this show reminded me a lot of my own, since my grandpa looked and acted so much like Stanley. Even though my sister is 4 years older than me, we were able to really bond over this show. Mabel’s struggles still speak to me so much since I’ve lost many people in my close family at a young age and I still hold on to those days where I was still young and had them in my life. Rewatching it when I was older made me see the complexity of the characters and the story more and it’s really just an amazing experience. I’m so happy so many people are still as passionate about this show as I am

Stan and Ford ARE like Dipper and Mabel, Dipper is supposed to be the smart one, but he too makes dumb decisions from time to time, not Just in Sock Opera, and he admits that he uses big words and he doesn’t know what they mean. Mabel is the supposed ‘lovable dummy’, but can also make smart decisions as well.
