In this video, we dive into packaging and running Backstage in Kubernetes. We'll start by building OCI images, then run Backstage with Docker, and finally, deploy it in Kubernetes using Helm charts. Learn how to automate builds, package and publish images, and set up CI workflows.

Thanks for another great video! I have to say this adds up to my previous concerns about the effort needed to maintain Backstage, . I'm more and more convinced that this requires expertise and dedicated teams in order to be adopted company-wise.

Love your Channel. I'm a Win/Linux Sys Admin looking to get into DevOps here in Ireland and earn my stripes, and you always have very intriguing content with some tool porn that I always love to try and test out and get giddy about. Thanks, but god damn. It's such a massive "Mine Field " it's madness. The rate of change is real !!

Maybe I'm trying to know it all and or become an expert in all tools while still a expert at nothing. mmmm.... I've started to apply for my first Entry DevOps roles, not because everyone is telling me about how great the money is, but the fact that it aligns with my very method of thinking technically. I feel that I am suited in this area and would love to dig deeper.

Thanks for your content, I've been following you for quite some time.

In the main backstage repo a helm chart does exist as well as multiple dockerfile examples for different setups. The helm chart is horrible but it does exist and the wolfi based dockerfile is not bad at all

Can the backstage-demo repo be public?

A little niche but as always - thanks for posting another video 👍

Thanks for your video! Did you try Kestra? What are your thoughts on this tool?
With an IDP, you would need quite a few workflows. What do you think about it, or about integrating something that could help with create, modify, delete something on demand?

And Could you share an overview of some blueprints, from Crossplane to Backstage, and how they work with workflow edit/update? How do we apply GitOps in those cases, or is there a video I've missed where you talk about it?

Thank you for this new video. Mainly we use kustomize and git In gitops way to maintain the workloads in kubernetes, but since you used oci to package helm charts, what are your thoughts about both approaches? Gitops using git repository directly or from a pushed oci object?

How would you treat HA Backstage with 3 replicas?
Would you need some kind of cache if you configured an auth provider?

Very informative video 👍🏾

You really seem to dislike Backstage. I get it’s not super intuitive for many SREs expecting off the shelf tools to simply install, but that’s not what Backstage is. If you want that, use Port or Cortex. If you want to develop your own dev portal, use Backstage.

So much of what you're saying simply isn't even true. It's so obvious you're trying to impress people with less experience with your grand, sweeping statements. It's too bad! You have a lot of interesting things to say and you have a big platform. Be better bro. After struggling with backstage for... honestly a few months, I wish I had myself to talk to when I began. It's all much easier than the docs make it seem. I feel like they are making things hard on purpose, because there are financial incentives for that. Eg. roadie, paid spotify plugins, and so on. The people who make the framework should NEVER be the same people benefiting financially from full solutions that *use* that framework. Especially when it's something this important.

Man I really appreciate your knowledge but I really get distracted by you wagging your hands at the camera so frantically

We deployed Backstage a year ago and we only whined a fraction of the amount you did. Did we miss out? 😢 I suggest (seriously) that you present this talk at the next BackstageCon. I bet that will spur some action. Also, you might learn that your experience could be a little easier than it has been for you so far.
