Better Call Saul - Mom Cries Out For Jimmy

I will probably call out for Jimmy with my last breath too.

One super sad thing I feel about this scene is that if it were reversed and Jimmy were there, he would probably tell Chuck that their mom called for him just to make his brother feel better.

I like to think that she already knew that Chuck was there and was calling Jimmy to have both of them together. Is just that Chuck misinterpreted it because of his own selfishness.

It's horrible how he secretly resented Jimmy all his life. Jimmy loved Chuck, but Chuck couldn't love him back coz mom and dad loved Jimmy more.
I can see why though, Jimmy is just so likeable

The show did an amazing job on not setting chuck up as a bad or good guy. One moment you feel bad for him the next you don’t

So tragic how the one who absolutely refused to leave his mother alone for even a moment got rewarded with "Your brother is the favorite one".

This made me feel like I was dead inside when I watched it for the first time. I felt horrible

I feel bad that Jimmy never got to know this, it’s also the start of Chuck hating his brother

Such a sad scene - for both brothers. For jimmy because he would never know his mom called out to him on her dying breath. And for chuck because even to her last breath it felt like jimmy was the favored son. It was important to show this scene to paint the picture of how deep the roots go for chuck’s resentment of jimmy.

I love how this scene can be interpreted differently. You either can interpret this scene as the mom favoring Jimmy more than Chuck or as her wanting to see both of her sons before she dies.

Seeing Chuck's resentment over his parents' favoritism of Jimmy is complicated. Chuck has clearly been an independent and high achieving person all his life. His parents probably felt like they had done a good job raising him. But with Jimmy I suspect there was a feeling on their part of unfinished business, seeing as he was a constant screw-up well into adulthood. Another parallel for this is the Jesse/Jake relationship in Breaking Bad.

It takes such a long time to truly understand how amazing Chuck McGill’s character is

I know its dark but I laughed so hard when she said "jimmy" and then immediately died

So brutal. Dad who was a doormat of a man (see the flashback scene with Jimmy and his dad vs conman) and a mom who with her dying breath literally uttered the name of his brother who wasn't even there. You gotta wonder if anyone in the McGill family ever cared much for Chuck besides Jimmy. .
