Enjoyed your review. I got my first book at 12 in 1972. Every Christmas since. I used to colour in the cartoons too. My mother died last year but my son has continued the tradition for me. It took me until now to collect all of them, as well as their rather nice repros. I have the England Smiler and a couple of the US forces versions. I got really lucky!
BTW, Jean Rook was a rather outspoken unpleasant acidic journalist, not an actress. She had a column in the Express.
