Phil at 4800 feet put out a great video on how much oxygen each packet removes. It's a lot.

I place an oxygen absorber on the bottom of the food, a food grade desiccant at the top, and also vacuum seal my jars as extra protection for my long term food storage.

I like Jonathan's "insurance plan!" I'm going to do the same. Better safe than sorry!

I just use 400cc Oxygen Absorbers in Everything & be Done with it! I played the What Size Oxygen Absorber Game for a bit but now I no longer have to as my 400cc's take care of everything. Stop Guessing or trying to go by Charts just get the Larger CC ones & use them in Every Storage Container as they are not expensive! Stop with the Guessing Game!!! I use a Pint Jar/Mylar bag (400cc), I use a Quart Jar/Mylar Bag (400cc), I use a 1/2 Gal Jar/Mylar Bag or a Gallon Jar/Mylar Bag (400cc). Doesn't get any easier than that!!!

I make padded sleeves for my bottles that blocks out light as well as protects against breakage from bottles knocking into each other. We also have earthquake bars so the bottles won’t fall off the shelf. 💕

you two are helping me so much- very new to O2 absorbers- but I noticed you have large bottles from other foods that you are reusing ie; the gallon bottle- how are you resealing them-do the O2 absorbers do the trick- I can reseal smaller ones no problem (use a canister and a very old food saver- have a heavy duty restaurant one for sealing) but not those very large jars would love to reuse my super large pickle jars= thank you

The ForJars vacuum sealers are much better quality and work much better for the regular mouth jars than the FoodSaver brand. They also come with a small hand pump. I own both and only use the ForJars ones now.

Thanks for the visual!

Curious why the oxygen absorber manufacturers suggest putting it on top versus on the bottom?

Can you store coffee beans vacuum sealed or absorber, or both? I can’t seem to find how to store coffee beans

I love my jars! I don’t use them a lot for freeze dried food because I worry about the light. I do keep the fruit in them because the grands go through them so quickly.

I put my leftover absorbers in a mason jar then vacuum seal the jar right away.

You are already oversizing based on those numbers -- that is about the O2 if the jar is empty.
For me 300cc is the cheapest and I do vacuum seal. I have a Foodsaver, but there are inexpensive alternatives and for my limited counter space they can be a lot more convenient.
Not that it matters but I tend to buy in 10s too. The little bags are generally mylar (not aluminized) so I just reseal those bags as I think I get less O2 exposure. I too have had leaky bottles.

We use the same O2 absorbers you guys do, they work great! However we store our unused absorbers in a quart jar and after sucking the air out using the vacuum pump feature on the same device you guys use, the little oxygen indicator goes from pink, blue when opened and then back to pink again after the storage bottle is resealed. Just thought you might be interested in that info...😘

Like Jonathan, I vacuum seal my jars of very dry foods with an O2 absorber in each one also. :-)
