The AMRAAM is going to be replaced. A week ago USAF and US Navy have announced that they are working with Lockheed Martin toward a replacement, whose name will be AIM-260.
Let's have a short chat about it!
Enjoy!

Range seems an odd reason to replace the amraam. I would have thought that modern stealth tech would make a max range hit unlikely anyway, and better medium range performance would be preferred as you might at least get furtive signals at those ranges. Maybe just an excuse/politics ("because CHINA has MOAR" works better in congress than "because we need it"?). I could well believe that more energy is currently better than more payload, given what could be done with optical terminal guidance. That would mean a 'more range' is absolutely equivalent to better anyway.
A combined guidance solution is definitely warranted currently. Tech has jumped in the last few years, and I would add optical in addition to IR and radar (and any other air penetrating wavelengths). My main design criterion for such a weapon would be upgradability of the guidance unit. Tech is moving super fast, with the markets for wifi (close enough to radar bands to be relevant) and phone cameras (which can pick up some IR wavelengths and could be optimised for others) meaning 10 years old is stone age.
