The territories within the HRE weren't all ruled by Prince electors. They were ruled by various nobles and monarchs with titles such as count or Duke, all collectively known as "Princes".

I consider the Seven Year's War (French and Indian Wars for Americans) as the FIRST True World War.
The Napoleonic Wars as the 2nd World War.
The Great War (WW1) as the Third World War.
The 2nd Great War (WW2) as the Fourth World War.
Because it simply makes sense to classify these wars like this because these all wars were fought on 5 to 7 continents not just one or two like the wars before them.

Was really surprised when I realized how complicated this war was. In my schools growing up this climax of european history was dumbed down to "a war between britain and france".
