Dokken - Unchain The Night Guitar Lesson

In this Unchain The Night guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great classic Dokken track note-for-note.

The tuning is Eb standard tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.

I will start the lesson with an in-depth look at the clean guitar section that opens the song. This section is comprised of arpeggiated chords with a melody on top. Most of the picking falls into a pattern, which makes memorizing this section a lot easier once you know that pattern.

From there I will go through all of the high gain riffs in "Unchain The Night" in the order that each appears on the original recording. The main riff is simply put, a killer riff that is a lot of fun to play.

However, as always whenever George Lynch is playing, the real star of the show is his guitar solos. Ever since I watched George Lynch play in 1991 with Lynch Mob on the ABC in concert series, he has been one of my favorite players. Seriously check out the video from this concert series on YouTube, his playing is out of this world.

I will show you, note-for-note, how to play George's main solo and the outro solo until the vocals come back in. These solos contain lots of signature moves by George Lynch include intense legato licks, crazy trill slides, rapid fire alternate picking and massive bends with great control of the intonation.

Have fun learning this Dokken classic! Carl...

No freaking way! I never thought you’d finally do a Dokken lesson! This was the first song from them that I’ve heard too. That intro instantly hooked me. Lynch’s playing is like no other’s and I’d even go so far as to say he deserves to be mentioned along with Randy and Eddie in terms of sheer inventiveness. More Dokken in the future would be the best! Thanks so much Carl!!

This is the stuff right here. Dokken! Carl be rockin’!

Suggestion: Live Without a Net - Eddie’s solo set. Would be brilliant to see that epic lesson posted on the anniversary of Eddie’s passing. You’re the only one who could actually do it. Such is the burden of being the very best at what you do.
