Teddy got his men Krag Jorgensen bolt action rifles, in .30/40 Krag while the Regular Army had old Trap Door Springfield rifles in .45/70, and also had some Browning/Colt machineguns provided by a Mr. Tiffany, the father of one of his soldiers. His men had twice the rate of fire of the Regular Army units.

Joke was on them: they sat at anchor for over a week in Tampa harbor waiting for orders to proceed.

To be awarded both the Medal of Honor for bravery in one war and the Nobel Peace Prize for ending another is an incredible irony.

What a polite way of saying, "if you don't like it you can kiss my ass".

That was Teddy's whole demeanor, even as president when Congress wanted to argue:

You go ahead and talk all you want, I'll just do something about it in the meantime.

He wasn't kidding when he said they were the best. They had unbelievable leadership in former Union and Confed officers.

My guy really had some balls talking like that to the now-former Asst. Secretary of the Navy. Unfortunate for him as TR had balls of steel.

Commandeering trains and boats just to get to a fight in Cuba. Roosevelt was an obstinate son of a gun.

My great grandfather, as a Colonel, led his 16th Pennsylvania Volunteers into Cuba and after a battle, captured a fort, its many soldiers and officers. He had trained his men well and none were lost in battle.
He had started as a private and ended his career with them as Brigadier General.
In Congress, he lobbied and won many benefits for National Guard units.

When it came to balls of brass, they broke the mold with Teddy! His middle name was unilateral!😂😂😂😂

You snooze, you lose - especially if you’re competing with TR.

I love how the emotionally stunted man held up his glasses prescription, declaring "I have orders for this vessel" and the emotionally empty man flatly said, "I'm reporting this to the general" as his eyes glazed over. Gaze upon this clip, ye filmmakers, and despair.
