Today would have been the birthday of one of Ray's oldest friends, Jerry Reed! Jerry and Ray came up in the music scene together in Georgia and remained great friends until Jerry's passing in 2008. To celebrate, here's Ray performing Jerry's 1971 number 1 hit, "When You're Hot, You're Hot" live on CabaRay Nashville.

Ray you did an amazing job singing this song of the great Jerry Reed. Didn't miss a word. You are still the best.

I like the voice Ray uses as the policeman. I grew up thinking of Jerry Reed as an actor that sang...until I got a little bit older I discovered that he had a lengthy recording career and got into acting later in his career. He guest starred twice on the sitcom "Alice"; voiced an animated version of himself on "Scooby Doo" in 1972; his biggest impact in the movies were the good ol' boy films he did with Burt Reynolds...in the third 'Smokey and the Bandit' movie Jerry's appearance, filling in for the missing Bandit (Burt Reynolds), had Jerry looking like a twin brother of Richard Petty.

He, Jerry, and Joe South were good friends. They all worked for Bill Lowery. Supposedly Ray got Jerry to come do sessions in Nashville.
