They both have their place. An Italian style thin crust baked in a wood fired pizza oven is HEAVEN, but deep dish or other thick pizza styles are also awesome

Deepdish looks good, I'd definitely eat it, but it's a savoury pie, not a flatbread like regular pizza. My favourite style is neopolitan, especially when it's proper and wood fired, but I'll concede that it's more of a summer food. You need something more substantial when it's cold and miserable out.

I’ve figured it out. Chicago is cold AF during the winter. They need a hearty meal to survive. I’m from Florida, I can tell you, thinner pizza slaps while you’re at a pool or beach. The locations temperature makes the difference.
