The hero's token gets changed to coins automatically after you max them, and if you're still starting up and you are still gathering tech from camp there's a tip for you:
If you have only 2 tech's left to choose from, take them both to lvl 4 because if you take one to lvl5 and the last one is lvl1, you no longer get that last tech

The one thing I am concerned about is the season reset, hearing that it disbands alliances and resets all heroes to level 1 feels like this is not really a kind of mobile game anymore cause that will take up way to much of your time to have to re-grind every time.

I can confirm that changing faction changes both tokens AND units from main quest. For example elves get Gwanwyn tokens and archers. I switched to orcs and am now getting Bakkhar tokens with infantry.

Bit late but healing and gathering changed.
1) Healing for free now uses "elixir", it's basically free daily INSTANT healing.
2) Gathering experience only applies to primary commander now, you can't abuse them anymore for free experience.

The observatory can be seen as an "i" when you select expedition mode in the map. And it's for clearing the rest 10% of the map when you clear 90% of it and there is only some small separated block :D

I started as elves for Gwanwyn, then swapped to orcs for their flying units. Seriously, why don't the elves get the flying archer? They're elves. Eagle riders would have been awesome!

About the AStronomer Camp; I'm at the stage where it doesn't give me any reserach-choices, only speedups. Is that normal at some stage?

Tip 1: You can only get the gold key when talking to the Heroes for the first time only, after that you get a rss and speedups
