Extreme Penny Farthing - Retro MTB freeride lines and send on this insane bike! take it back to the old-school style of mountain biking with a Penny Farthing! I ride MTB trails, BMX tracks and full speed hill bombs, would you?

I finally found a Penny Farthing for sale and not an ancient bit of history but a new beefed up version of this classic old skool bike that once roamed our streets. So the first thing I decided to do was climb up the biggest little mountain I could find and send it down these MTB style trails on this fixed gear beauty. I had a few crashes but as I neared the bottom the bike got better and better and I really think it has potential! After riding the huge mountain I ride a pump track and try some jumps and even manage to get this thing in the air off a perfect farthing jump. From here I race a full lap of the BMX track before finding a super steep hill to fly down at full speed on my new favorite bicycle!
So, gear up and get ready to witness an extreme Penny Farthing MTB freeride in all its retro glory!

I hope you enjoy the video!

It just looked so ridiculous I couldn't stop laughing, the straight legs when going down hill not touching the pedals was just amazing.

The freewheel hub that runs in unicycle bearings is found on the front of those drift trikes. Huffy was the manufacturer of most of them as they came from a kids big wheel thing called the green machine.

The sheer terror on Sam's face when he comes bombing out of that gateway is possibly the greatest thing I've ever witnessed 😂 😂 😂

One of the best videos I've seen in ages! You need to use the trick Penny Farthing riders used to do when riding downhill. They took their feet off the pedals and put their legs OVER the handlebars. The idea being that going over the handlebars was quite likely and having your legs over (and resting on!) the handlebars meant they would land feet-first. The was called "doing a cropper" and it is the origin of the phrase "to come a cropper". It's also worth bearing in mind that Penny Farthings did have a front-wheel brake but clearly anything other than very gentle braking would cause the rider to go over the handlebars. Hence, as I see others have pointed, the Penny Farthing's successor was called the "Safety Bicycle".

Once again, thank you for an excellent video. You nutter. 👍

Great video as always. Yes, there are non-fixed hubs. You could use unicycle freewheel hubs, you could even ask Florian Schlumpf (the guy that invented the Schlumpf Speeddrive) to build a two speed hub for you.

This is amazing! Loved that stoppie! 😂

A unicycle freewheel hub might be your answer to make it coast! 👍

Funny thing is Sam’s is genuinely nice guy. His character isn’t put on and is genuinely like this in real life. I remember being a 16 year old riding my bmx at the local park playing with french bangers blowing up ketchup from Mc Donald’s with him. Town hero lol

And this is why the new bike was called a safety bicycle. Love the lesson in motion, Sam

My first time watching this channel, & on first impressions this Sam chap reacts to the world like a child. & I mean that as a sincere compliment.

Hiding under a tree on top of a hill during a storm might be more insane than trying to ride that beast down that small mountain....this one really made my day....thanks for the pure joy you brought me....cheers 🇨🇦

Just like to say "Thank you!"...
Over the last (nearly) two years through certain s**t going on in my life you've given me a positive outlook on things as well as lighting a fire to get out and send it with my brother.
Keep on keeping on.

Josef Zimovčák from the Czech Republic also had a similar bike, and in 2005 he rode the entire Tour de France on it, all stages at the same doses as professional racers. He holds several world records. Fighter! 😀💪
