Brexit: EU citizens in UK worried about their futures

Millions of EU citizens who live in the UK were given until the end of this month to apply for settled status.

It's feared that many people will fail to meet that deadline and campaigners want it extended.

But even for those whose applications have been processed, there is no certificate to prove your status, just a digital code.

But that's not good enough, say people who are now worrying about future access to NHS treatment or are fearing problems returning to the UK if they visit their home countries.

And they complain that they're short of workers. If the situation is dire for a migrant that's been there for 20 years, what's it like for a foreign person ?

I can't imagine getting that message back saying that their details are not in the system and stuff. Scary.

I’ve got my paperwork in order. If the U.K. want to throw me out that’s fine. I’ll just pay my taxes somewhere else. At least I’ve got a whole continent where I can choose where to work. The British public have lost those rights and will never regain it. So who is really loosing here?
Don’t forget this. Compared to British citizens we are super citizens. We have the right to work and live in the U.K. and Europe. A great paradox of Brexit.

Welcome to Scotland and Ireland in Europe!
Scottish should be allowed to get their referendum since they were not allowed from the UK to separate from them and access as an independent country to the EU since they would have vote in opposition.
Ironic that with Brexit they forced Scotland out of the EU and Scottish people have the right to claim for a second referendum.

During most of the pandemic, consulates were shut and did not offer appointments to renew documents. A few people I know will be missing the deadline because of a backlog for renewing documents, for example the Portuguese consulate. The deadline has to be extended for this very reason.

EU citizens need physical proof for settled status. I find the fact that they don't give one, marginally sadistic. Like they enjoy to see EU citizens feel stress and uncertainty. Honestly, how difficult would be to give physical proof?
