"Bah" is Sabahan, and Chinese also use "ba" and both are absolutely legit. They did not "come out of nowhere".

Sabahan "bah" sounds Bornean/Indonesia and can be use like a lah, but far less aggressive sounding, so maybe equivalent to an "ah..." or "ya/h".

E.g. "macam gini bah" ("like this, ya/h...")

For Chinese ba, you would say something like hao le ba (好了吧) to say "ok/can already ", when, for example, someone asks "你好了吗?" (Are you ready/good?)

In English, both bah and ba are known as sentence-final particles, which is what lah, leh, lor are also classified as.

They don't have any particular meaning, but they are added at the end of sentences to imply or convey certain meanings that aren't explicitly inside speech, such as to add emphases, or to bring across some emotion, such as annoyance.

Surely you know how versatile "lah" can be, since using it can convey a gamut of emotions from dismay, to doubt to exasperation to assertion.

Example - mak jerit kat kau: "pergi mandi, lah!" and then kau duduk kat depan computer sebab depressed, whispering "Aku tak nak mandi, lah".

Ba 吧 is one of a few in Chinese, others include le 了, ne 呢, ma 马, la 啦, and a 啊.
