CRETE IN 2 WEEKS | Samaria Gorge, Matala | GREECE | EPISODE 2

This 2nd episode in our Crete series is about EUROPE'S LONGEST GORGE, the Samaria gorge and also about the sleepy hippie seaside town of Matala which lies in the south of Crete.
Samaria gorge hike is a beautiful experience and not really tiring actually. It was 16 km of hike out of which, the first 5 or so km you are actually descending down into the gorge. Eventually after 16 km, you come out on the beach which is just wonderful. Definitely recommended!
After our hike, we went on our way to Matala but stopped at the Preveli beach which has a river from the gorge slowing into the sea through the beach surrounded by palm trees on all sides. A fascinating place!
Eventually we made our way to Matala which has caves carved in a rock on the beach from thousands of years ago. In the 60s and 70s, these caves were home to hippies on the hippie trail including some famous people like bob dylan!
Stay tuned for the final episode 3 where we will show the laid back atmosphere of Agios Nicholaos and its surrounding areas, a lost city under the water, an ancient city on top of the hills more than 2000 years old and an abandoned island which was used to isolate people infected with Leprosy !
