The fact that douglas was able to go upstairs whilst holding a shotgun and he can also sense where gary is standing when he aims shows how smart and strategic douglas would be if he survived he was able to escape even when the door is locked means he walked all the way to the front door he also shot gary WITH HIS EYES SHUT WHO IN TF CAN ALSO DO THAT wish douglas survived bro

Another explanation but longer;
It all started when Mallorie went to the hospital or doctors idk because she was pregnant and got an ultrasound, Mallorie’s sister and her were driving home when suddenly Mallories sisters eyes got weird and watery and she crashed (Mallories sister died) she got bumped into a couple of times and someone tried to help but the monster caught that person and made her commit suicide. Douglas blamed her (Mallorie) for his wife’s death, there were other people there including a police officer.

So this scene was where they let this dude Gary come in, he looked outside and made everyone even a girl who was pregnant with Mallorie (Her name was Olympia) she jumped out the window and died, this old lady (Cheryl) stabbed herself with a pair of scissors, Gary got killed by being shot. Lydia and (idk) left with the car and died ig
(Fast forward)
As the kids grew up Tom and Mallorie loved each other, they took care of the kids until Tom was fighting people and he took of his blindfold and died by shooting himself.
