“Oasis of peace”: Israelis, Palestinians coexist in one village in Israel

While it is hard to see much hope in the Middle East amid Israel's war on Hamas in Gaza, there is one place where Israelis and Palestinians are living together in peace.

Neve Shalom is a mixed Jewish and Palestinian village, the only one of its kind, sitting about halfway between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Daniele Hamamdjian visits Neve Shalom to find out what lessons can be learned in what is also known as an “oasis of peace.”

I've visited this place as a teen. It is a lovely place and with kind, warm people. May we know true peace someday.

How is the existence of this village not talked about on all news sites? This is the model for peaceful coexistence between the 2 nations, tried and proven successful. The key to success is *equal rights* between the ethnic groups. It's that simple.

The man says it can never work, and here it is, he should lose his position if he believes that! Neve Shalom is a beautiful testament to humans' capacity to love and negotiate for the important things in life! May the idea spread and may this city last forever!

This village is in Israel. Jews and Arabs (Palestinians) can live side-by-side in Israel. Is there a village like this in a Muslim country? Nope.

Consider that 21% of Israeli citizens are Arab (Palestinian) but 0% of Gaza residents are Jewish. Why?

There are many peaceful towns in Israel where Jews and Arabs live, work and enjoy recreation together. Lots of Israeli Arabs are very grateful to be Israeli. My dentist, my doctor, my bus drivers, are Arab Israelis. We share the same beaches, restaurants, shopping centers and medical facilities, etc., etc.

If there is a place like this right there in the heart of Israel why can't the other Palestinians live in peace and harmony with Israel!?

This is great example of coexistence. But why do we find this village within the state of Israel and not in Gaza? Where are the peace makers on the Palestinian side. It’s easier to make peace with Arab Muslims Cristian and Jews that are all Israeli citizens. Citizens of a democratic free country. Where is the oasis in Ramallah or Kan Yunis. Equality yes. But apply equal judgement and standards to the Palestinian side. If you don’t do that then the west and western media are part of the problem. A big part of it actually

Peace can happen when both sides acknowledge each other's right to exist, only then can they cohabitate the land together. Deradicalization on both sides is the only way to move forward in this conflict.
