As a former crewleader for a blast and paint facility at a railyard where we'd strip, spray and re-stencil all kinds of rail cars...I can tell you that 4 hours is not that bad at all for laying down primer on a semi frame, especially considering that youre making due with what you've got and dont have a whole paint facility to work in.

Solid work, Matt. 🍻

You are proof that the most important thing in getting something done is to get started.

Anyone ever think they’d hear Diesel Creek say “I need to close the doors quickly to preserve the AC in my shop”? 😂😂😂

Matt, this is why people like you so much. Most of us know squat about painting and would never notice your mistake. You point it out anyway. Keep it up man.

My dad had Acars hauling coal here in W.V. I was raised riding in them, then driving. It makes me so happy to see you restoring this one! One of the toughest and best-driving trucks hauling coal back in the day. Mack had a tough truck but they didn't drive like an Autocar! I wish you could find the round bumper that came on them, I think that made the look of them.

Anybody who complains about what or how you completed the primer needs to grow up. You did what you were looking to do and it looks great. Keep it up.

Yep painting so you don't miss any crooked nannies takes a lot of effort. you only discover them --later-- 😉🙃🙃
I think you nailed it with that gunmetal grey . I worked for a machinery hire place which excelled in " spray-gun " overhauls, unsurprisingly it didn't help with machine reliability !

I never noticed a telehelper 🤣 that would stop the front steer and only use the rear. I’ve always hated using 4 wheel steer to turn the rear, then switch back to front only to straighten them out. Sounds silly but as you know sometimes rear steer can get you in a better position.
Now after looking harder it seems to only have rear steer. Still never seen either 🤷🏼‍♂️

Great choice on the grey color. It is so satisfying watching the old girl get restored and getting a fresh coat of paint.

I can't wait to see this truck back to its former (but improved) glory and back on the road!

A pressure pot spray gun is nice for big jobs like this. It will spray at any angle and can hold a lot more paint.

Matt good to see you continuing work on the AutoCar When you got the Mac at auction the Mac will not replace the AutoCar for heavy hauling. Glad to see you hard at work on the older machines I am 92 year old viewer watching you work from day one You are one of a kind lov e tou

The output shaft for the front diff is made to be unbolted at the 4 bolt retainer and pulled out the back of the axle housing as an assembly. Then you can inspect the output shaft bearing and retainer for wear and install a new seal and gasket. surprised to see someone still has SQHD's rebuilt on the shelf. FYI test fit an axle shaft in both units to make sure they have the same spline count each one, those units were available with two different spline counts for SLHD and SQHD.

35 years ago I used to sandblast and prime antique and classic car frames and we used epoxy primer then, you will not have to worry about that frame for the rest of your life!😊
