the menu layout has had some minor changes that confused me at first.
Inside Dope Sheet:
As there is no more "Tracks" tab you need to go to "Edit" tab --> "Visibilty Track"

for beginners just follow the steps as it is, especially the one for making the animation appear in the view board by setting a key at the beginning and one at the end

Hi, thanks for tutorial, I'm working on south park characters in 3ds max (I know it's not the best program for this kind of animation, but sp studios uses Maya) and this tutorial is very useful with characters' mouth.

in  my interactive display it changes, maybe because i use 3ds Max 2014, your is 2012 as i see.

object fades when timeline scrubbed, but will not fade when rendering.

visibility track does not work in mental ray...so not very useful. not you're fault of course but flippin annoying seeing as it's the 'pro renderer' that ships in 3ds max.
