In one of Arthur C Clarke’s sci fi books the characters visited a planet that elected its leader by lottery. The local the characters met explained that they had much higher likelihood of incompetence but way less corruption. Any person who intentionally sought out political office was automatically assumed to be the wrong person for the job.

I don't know about Europe, but in the U.S. we also have separate insurance for our ocular needs.

I have asked the same question about dentistry and also vision not covered by regular insurance. Often times health issues first become apparent in the eyes or mouth.

Regarding your question about printing more money: value is based on scarcity. The more money is printed or given away, the less value it has.

Set prices marked on the product is a relatively new concept. It began in the late 1800's. Before then, people haggled for each type & quantity of good or service, that they bought. Of course, that slowed down the logistics of retail commerce, so when set prices were introduced, they caught on quickly, with both customers and retailers as cities became crowded.

The way banks work makes no sense to me. When you don't have enough funds to cover a payment they charge you even more money (overdraft fees) to punish you. The whole point was you don't have enough money so why demand even more? And, why do they authorize loans only after you can prove you don't need one? Oh, and I'm totally feeling you about stores not putting prices on things. It's ok, we can handle the truth. Keep up the great work, hope your knee is getting better.

I don't know if people are required to show picture ID to purchase alcohol outside the U.S., to verify the buyer's age, but I see people doing this all over, while each party involved in the transaction is wearing a facemask. I'll ask the seller why they bother, when it could be anyone under the mask, and invariably, the answer is "Because I'll get fired and/or fined, if I don't."

Let's say for one moment I owned a trillion-dollar company and decided to give it all away. First, the value of the company would be maybe 1/4 of what it was worth when I announced the liquidation. Second, all those now out of work people would be on public assistance.

Why with all surveillance cameras and such, it is not easy to find missing people?

Because having a tremendous amount of information does not mean you the capability of effectively analyzing it. In fact, too much information to sort through can be a problem in itself for intelligence agencies.
