There are actually several ways to avoid that ending. If you talk about the new Album, the Lady lets you stay in her house where you can find an electric fly swatter. Thus you can kill the fly and make a nice snack by grilling it (the head also makes a nice "Pop")

When you talk to the man wit the "peculiar diagnosis", you can find a glass in his garage which you can either use to catch the bug and interrogate it, or make a deadly trap with juice and dish soap this too killing the bug (though it does not give you a tasty snack. Probably the worst outcome of this scene)

When you have made good contacts with glimbo you can also move (the most realistic option)
