ColorOS 13 Hands-On Review | Best new features explored

Reviewing ColorOS 13, the beta version of Oppo's latest Android launcher, including some of the best new features and updated options packed inside. Here's a side-by-side of ColorOS 13 vs 12.1 on the Oppo Find X5 Pro, including a brief guide to the rollout schedule and which devices are getting it first.

From an early hands-on, it seems that version 13 is more of a gentle upgrade over the previous version than a full-on evolution. The Always On Display is one of the biggest improvements, with direct Spotify control and a selection of new options. ColorOS 13 also includes new wallpapers, including a Blossom effort that makes you aware of your screen-on time that day.

Oppo has also improved the notifications bar/control center, which has improved media controls. There's a bold new font running throughout and spruced-up animations for the likes of the clock app. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Color OS 13 is also designed to keep apps open for longer and ensure your privacy stays strong.

Oppo just pushed Android 12 (ColorOS 12) to my 3yo Reno 10x Zoom. I don't think I'd be missing much in version 13.

I got the update a couple of days ago and to be honest I found more things they changed that bother me than things that I like, nothing really important but to me coloros has rather been a downgrade than an upgrade

Problems with visualize sound may affect touch screen if we had seperate keyboard may solve that or readjust threshold of touch sensitivity

It seems like a lot of nothing really. Giving the user an option to customise physical buttons would be good. The only way to take a screenshot of through the little slide out tab, but when you're on a game the tab loses the screenshot option. Taking a screenshot can't be added to a physical button which is odd.

How's the animations on the apps? I know some apps are super finiky (60 fps on YouTube, always inconsistent on Instagram, etc.)

Still waiting on an update for my x5 pro. Its sad that only some regions can join the beta not including my country. So i'll probably have to wait on a stable update in a few months
