There are countless videos on which mode to use over which chord, contexts, rhythms, complex reaches of deep mathematics, etc….

It’s really all about expression, phrasing, tone and other nuances like vibrato, slides. Hammer-ons, etc.

Here is a video describing two scales for playing over Major keys, and two scales for minor…

With these can come further exploration, and there’s a section at the end about chromatic scales too..

Great video, explained in an easy way for an elementary player.

Hi Dan! I’ve got a quick question about recording in general. So I have an 8 channel interface, but I’d like to use 4 of the inputs and Jack outs as a send and return to use an analog mixing desk to edit in post. How would I go about setting up wiring? Many thanks

Hi Dan

Thanks for the great content. Got here by way of your reamping video which was tremendously helpful.

Had some confusion but then backed up a few minutes and heard what I'd missed so all cleared up haha. At 9:38 when you said, "The good thing with the minor is...", it led me to forget that you'd been utilizing the Dorian so I thought a couple notes were wrong and had to bust out my brain to try and see where I'd gotten lost. Is it fair to say then that, had you played the actual minor scale there as opposed to C Dorian, there would have been a clash note at the 6tt?

Thanks again!

Hi Dan. Thanks for the video, but it raises a question for me. When playing against a minor chord, why did you choose the Dorian mode as opposed to the minor scale? Doesn’t the use of a non diatonic note cause problems with other chords in the minor progression?
