Researchers Target Cure For Vascular Disease | Dr. Sharon Gerecht | Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund
Показать описание
Every day, 2,200 Americans die from vascular diseases – our #1 killer – but Dr. Sharon Gerecht and her lab at Johns Hopkins University work to understand how stem cells may be used to induce blood vessel repair & restoration.
--
Dr. Sharon Gerecht serves as the Director for the Johns Hopkins Institute for NanoBio Technology (INBT) and a professor in the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department. She and her team focus on understanding how stem cells function in health and disease and have developed novel approaches to understand the role of stem cells, focusing first on vasculature formation.
This research allows them to uncover how stem cells can induce blood vessel repair and restoration towards normal function.
Their methodology enables them to develop new approaches to control the repair mechanism and engineer biodevices as therapeutics leading to rapid wound healing.
MSCRF’s funding mechanisms have given Dr. Gerecht and her team the ability to develop several technologies that are now in preclinical and clinical testing stages.
