😱 UPDATE: New animated "War of the Worlds" film set in Victorian England like the original book by H.G. Wells:

War of the Worlds - the Martians return to Surrey. This project began as a 'stress test' for my system and the Bullet Dynamics feature of Lightwave 11. Whilst there are various demos on the web showing animations such as towers being knocked down by giant chrome balls, I wanted to try to destroy a house in as realistic a way as I could manage. This entailed firstly building the Lightwave model brick by brick, tile by tile, roof timber by roof timber. The 'Fracture' plug-in within Lightwave 11 was used to break up the concrete panels. The bricks, tiles, and blocks were all 'UV' mapped. So that the house would collapse more slowly, gravity was 'enveloped' from zero to -9.7. A small kinematic object followed the tip of the heat-ray to 'plough through' the structure. The blocks in the driveway were lifted in the same way, as was the Audi. Rendering took an age due to the use of radiosity and volumetrics. The tripod owes its design more to that described by H G Wells in his book, rather than to the rather organic looking machines which appeared in the Steven Spielberg film. Apart from Lightwave, the programs used were Photoshop for the backgrounds, Vegas Pro for the video editing, Premiere Pro and Sound Forge for the surround sound mix. I do not have After Effects - all compositing was done in Lightwave. No animals were harmed during the making of this video.
