I live in Poland. To me NATO always meant security for my country from unprovoked aggression from more powerful countries and a guarantee of peace with the members of the organization. I will never forget the day in which my my country joined NATO - I think it was a giant political leap forward for Poland. The only fear I know me and my countrymen have is that when things would really escalate we would get left for dead or traded away in some peace negotiations. One for all & all for one looks nice on paper, but in reality there are no guarantees. NATO still seems like a lose collection of separate states than a single-minded giant determined and capable to defend any and all of it's borders. At least that's how it feels from a personal perspective.
