Commissioned by m:con-mannheim:congress GmbH for the City of Mannheim and the Automobile Summer Baden-Wuerttemberg 2011.
With more than 20,000 spectators and nearly two billion mass media audience, Marios Joannou Elia's "autosymphonic" was composed for the Grand Finale of the 125th birthday celebrations of the automobile. It has been called "The Event of the Century" by the German media.
The centre of the city, the Friedrichsplatz square, had been transformed into a concert arena with an area of 65,000 square meters, surrounded by a 360-degree sound system. 265 musicians, 100 technicians and 80 cars took part in the premiere of the work. The television broadcasts reached 55 million viewers in over 40 nations.
