“If you understand the welcome of the gospel, you will run towards the welcome of honesty.”

Paul Tripp discusses introspection as a part of the normal Christian life. Proper introspection leads to confession, which leads to a greater thankfulness for the gospel of grace.

The problem I find is that I introspect too much, and not in a healthy way, the kind of introspection Paul mentions at 1:03, self-loathing and self-condemning. Also, I just can't stop thinking about thinking, epecially in social situations: about why I'm not saying anything or can't think of anything to say, which just leads to even less thoughts of other people and more introsepction about how I'm not saying anything. Such a destructive and pointless loop!

But I love the point he makes that self-condemning introspection is a denial of the gospel - such an insight. I always need others to help encourage me to see myself in a right way, and the insight Paul gives here is a great reminder and tool in the fight to see my sin and my failure in a proper light, to stop saying that my failures are so bad as not to be covered by the gospel. 'Who can deliver me from this body of sin? Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ.'
