He only had 45 home runs in 20 seasons as a player but got one as a 75 year old. Amazing

He was an amazing man! He loved his Aunt and I had the pleasure to meet him at his home in Cumming, GA. I took care of his Aunt for him. She was a beautiful 95 year old lady. I consider him a friend!!

No doubt that Appling was juicing to be able to hit a home run like this at 75 years old. He was juicing fruits and vegetables in a blender.

This was the first (and only) time Appling batted against Warren Spahn. Also only the second game they played in together (1947 all star game)

I remember watching this moment on TV. It's too bad they don't do these games any more.

And Appling wasn't even a home run hitter. He hit only 45 in a 20 year career. But he hit .310 for his career, scored 1, 319 runs and drove in 1, 116. He won the batting title twice.

I remember this game.

Particularly enjoyed seeing Reese giving the encouraging glove to the back of the head.

I can STILL remember watching that on TV when it happened.

On another YouTube someone said, that a 75 year-old hit the ball but a ten year-old ran the bases.

Even at 265 ft that’s still impressive for a 75 year old

The stadium was in football configuration at RFK for this game, which meant the left field wall was about 260 ft from home plate. Nonetheless, he drilled it.

He only hit 45 home runs during his 18 year career which makes this even more impressive.

I bet he didn’t feel 75 rounding those bases. Awesome.

I was at this game after the players went on strike. It was hilarious to watch Appling hit the homerun and round the bases.
