I don’t agree with the edit. When Gojo said that his students will surpass him, he didn’t mean each one of them will become literally stronger than him. He meant it in the fact that they will ALL be the strongest together. He wanted them to “develop strengths far greater than his own”, meaning he wanted them to all be happy and not feel alone or burdened by being the “strongest”.

In addition, it makes no sense in terms of the story for new generation sorcerers to surpass Gojo and Sukuna. Sukuna lived in the heian era, which obviously made him stronger. Gojo was born an anomaly in a generation far weaker than the heian era. Yuji wasn’t born an anomaly like Gojo, and he certainly doesn’t live in an era as rigorous as the heian era.

Gojo would basically destroy yuji. Yuji achieved what Gojo couldn’t his whole life, which was around the people he cared about, and not strength
