Was RAGE 2 An Underrated Game?

RAGE 2 is certainly worth a try for lovers of the recent Wolfenstein reboot. The game was previously given out as a free title on the Epic Games Store and with its availability on Xbox Game Pass, interested fans can easily try out the game.

As for the future of the RAGE franchise, it looks extremely bleak now that two out of two entries have failed on a commercial level. While a potential third game could definitely turn the tides around for the franchise, it just doesn't seem viable from a business standpoint. But now that ZeniMax Media is under Microsoft's leadership, one cannot say what's going to be the case. Either way, it seems fair to say that chances are pretty slim that we might see a potential RAGE 3 anytime in the near future.

Honestly, i dont think the missions are repetitive. The game should be at least an 85+ on metacritic its fun, satisfying and goofy so all a really good mix for some good gameplay underatted gem.

The combat is what made me push through it and continues to be why I praise this game. Outside of combat nothing about the game is special, but damn is that combat top tier for a shooter.

It's far from being a must have, but it's graphically and mechanically sound. It's one of those games that you buy three years after launch on a sale.

Never heard of Rage until Rage 2. Which still didn't have much to go on lack of advertising. I got Rage and beat it, liked it. Then got Rage 2 and it was a really fun game.

The first "Rage" is highly under-rated as is the new one which is quite removed from the first but very good at what it does best coming from the incredible I'd Software.

Hope Bethesda & Microsoft make a Rage 3. There's a lot of fun & potential with this game

Yes. The critics bitched it was too generic, when it was in truth a rather serviceable title that does its job as an entertaining open-world title that doesn't overload on optional content.

Yes. Both Rage 1 and 2 are underrated gems.

I feel that Rage 2 is a true underrated gem. Don’t know why it gets so much undeserved hatred. I think it goes well with whatever game library you’re building. Pick it up if you see it for cheap. While no where as action packed as Doom (2016) or Doom Eternal I feel it delivers.

This games gunplay was certainly underrated, I just think it could have benefited from being more linear than open world, and also having a way more fleshed out story.

Yes, Rage 2 is underrated in my opinion. The gunplay is just so good, the upgrades you get also make you want to use them and are not just a gimmick. Travelling the open world can sometimes be a bit boring but your next destination is usually only a minute away on the map. You want to get to the next upgrade and destroy your enemies.

Plus the game is very well optimized for PC (steam for me), you can get the game for dirt cheap during a sale or a game-key website. This to me is on the level of Doom 2016 only in a different more colorfull setting. I would not hesitate to get this game!

The only two things I remember from the original Rage were the awesome wingstick boomerang-like weapon as well as imo unprecedented enemy reactions to being hit. I remember enemies would jump on top of things, pull their way through doorways, slide under barriers, spin around when shot, and more. It felt like a very gritty and like a mix between Borderlands and Mad Max, but I had no real desire to see a sequel since it was so unrecognizeable from a visual standpoint which I think is its greatest weakness. Rage 2 compared to Rage 1 feels like how Far Cry: New Dawn did compared to Far Cry 5.

Yes. Yes it was.

Its more fun than Doom in my opinion.

Best Shotgun in gaming history.

The powers plus the flexibility to play how you want (no forced glory kills for item drops for example) makes for great fun.
I love how fast it is. You can sprint faster than your car once you are upgraded.
Its pure gameplay. Its a videogame not ashamed of being a video game. The story exists simply to have a reason your enemies are enemies and to make progress progressive.

Its exactly what we should have expected from the makers of Doom, Just Cause and Mad Max.
Its a nice mix of all 3.

Liked the first one, it had the atmosphere that makes a post-apocalyptic setting right. Had ok gunplay, unique dungeon-like areas for its questline, and Mad Max-like car racing. Also liked the music and card mini-game. Rage 2 is just a colorful boring open-world game with good combat. What ruins it for me is the repetitiveness and oversaturated color palette.

Playing this in 2023 where most FPS games are starting to feel stale, the combat system was a breath of fresh air. Would love to see Avalanche or another studio take this combat system and package it with an interesting story and improve on the open world variety. Would be interested to see if combat like this could work in PVP as well.

Rage 2 had great combat and some interesting lore, sadly it also relied heavily on a dull open world, weak characters and gave very little to comeback or even finish in my opinion
