Sting has said this track is about a domestic situation where a man is on the edge of paranoia. As the paranoia increases a monster forms in a Scottish lake/loch. The monster is a symbol of the mans increasing anxiety. Thats a synchronistic situation.

Great track. I still remember buying the vinyl back in '83.

What I hope heaven is. Starting Jan 1st, 1980, I'd like to live that day until I get bored with it even if it took 100 years for that one day, seeing/experiencing everything all over the world. What the song is about isnt important, whats important is that its another example of Stings musical genius. The song is about the everyday life and frustrations of the common man living alongside the synchronicity of society.

This song could've been written about my father.... he worked 12-16 hours a day at a factory. He'd come home, plop into his recliner, open a beer, and just "stare off in the distance".

But we never wanted for anything. He also taught us the value of hard work.
