Cigarette butt recycling

Cigarette butts are now being transformed into stuffing material for plush toys and pillows. Approximately 5 trillion cigarette butts are discarded each year. Code Effort, a company based in India, collects cigarette butts from the streets and processes the filters, paper, and tobacco separately. The tobacco is composted with oxygen to turn it into natural fertilizer. The paper part is combined with an organic binder in an industrial grinder, creating a material that acts as a mosquito repellent when burned. Finally, the plastic fibers in the filters are ground through a special process, sterilized for 24 hours, and transformed into a cotton-like structure. This cottony material is then used as stuffing material for plush toys and pillows.
