Daredevil Raccoon Scales 9 Floors of New Jersey Building

This is one fearless raccoon! A crowd gathered below in Ocean City, New Jersey, watched in amazement as it scaled a building last week. But when the raccoon reached the ninth floor, down it went. The little critter bounced right back up and ran off, none the worse for wear. It's reminding many of the crazy raccoon from June that made it all the way to the roof of a skyscraper in St. Paul, Minnesota. Unfortunately, this New Jersey daredevil wasn’t as successful. #InsideEdition

They can survive falling 40 meters without breaking a bone, and 40 feet without injury. Pretty neat.

Interesting, at 0.33 the raccoon notice it couldn't hold in the building any longer, and decided to jump. It turned around, spread its legs, so the whole area of its body could make resistance to the air, decreasing the impact. That`s interesting because even without critical thought, it knew what to do, pretty much like an instinctive impulse. Another interesting thing about it is the fact that this instinctive impulse to work, needs to be connected to the perception of its eyes and ears, pretty much like humans when noticing distance/altitude. This indicates that the perception of the world raccoons have, in matters of dimensional space, isn`t different from ours. It indicates a complex nervous system and the bases of what we consider our immediate reality, which means they`re not that different from us, aside critical thought. Calculating the altitude it drops, and the area it built upon spreading its legs, we could consider how much impact force the raccoon could avoid due air resistance. Also, if you hear the sound it makes upon hitting the floor, you could notice how its body was able to transfer the impact along it`s extension, avoiding damaging its legs, for example, and that`s why he could run away. I wonder though if there was any internal organ damage. Hey, Inside Edition, I want to know please, more about the state of health of such creature, if possible. Or, based on the arguments expressed above, if the altitude could damage the internal organs of the raccoon. This video reminds me of those suits people use to glide... very enriching video, thanks for sharing it! Also, take care of these raccoons please.

When he hit the ground my heart stopped. Poor guy. Hopefully not injured somewhere hiding.

He landed like a sack of flour. I’m sure he’s gonna be ok. Raccoons have been known to survive worse.

It probably didn’t survive it would suffer major internal damage

LOTS of people seemingly don’t understand TERMINAL VELOCITY ( maximum falling speed for weight. Humans reach it after something like 45 feet) in a vet study 80% of house cats survived 4 stories+ drops with minor to no injuries. That raccoon hit sand and buffered the fall by expanding. He definitely had a chance
