A Public Interest Litigation seeks to protect the constitutional rights from violation by allowing an action against the Government authorities. Traditionally, the principle of Locus standi allowed only the person having interest in the dispute to file a petition. However, through public Interest Litigation socially active citizens can file petitions in matters involving greater public importance.
