Alexander is an extremely interesting piece of history. What he accomplished at his age is unprecedented.

As a Greek, it is very interesting to me what Alexander's motivation was to go that far away, and it remains one of the great mysteries in Greek history.

Ever noticed how statues of the buddha have a greek hairstyle? Alexander is why. Cleopatra in Egypt was also of Greek descent because of Alexander.

What's crazier is this man was the bassist for both Soundgarden and Nirvana.

Alexander was something else. Revolutionized logistics and took his father's city state, united Greece, and then conquered the known world. Undefeated in battle despite nearly always being outnumbered. Truly "the great."

I’ve seen ruins from Alexander in Afghanistan. Human history is absolutely amazing. It’s a shame more people can’t travel to the Middle East and enjoy the archeology.

They became the Parthians. The Chinese wanted there horses because they were superior horses for war. They were the closest link between ancient Rome/Greece and ancient China. Because of them the Roman's were aware there were people beyond and China knew there were people beyond. They helped in some fashion to establish the silk road because both Rome and China wanted to set up direct trade routes. They knew there was another great empire on the other side of Parthia, respectively. Rome barely made it to that deep into Parthia for a very short time and the Chinese sent an envoy that I think made it the western edges of the middle east before the fall of western Rome. A YouTube channel called Kings and Generals has great content in general but they cover this in their Alexander series. Well worth the watch

I have a friend called Iskandar, it was interesting to learn the etymology of his name. It's called rebracketing, the "Al" from Alexander turned into the Arabic article, their word for "the", and so got dropped. Alexander - exander - Iskandar

As a Greek I wasn’t surprised by that in history books we have the rough location of each Alexandria

One of the coolest things I got to see in Afghanistan was a “castle” Alexander built. At the time it was being used as a joint base between Afghan and US forces as a forward base.

That's why Afghans have green or blue eyes and sometimes red or blonde hair. Greek Buddhism was a thing. Amazing place it must have been.

The phalanx was like gunpowder with how it outmatched everything against it

I'm surprised that the Taliban haven't dynamited it yet. Not quite the history lovers.

Alexander the Great did have a lot of help and a great setup for his life but even then what he accomplished was absolutely mind blowing. Not to mention being a leader who actually fought in his own battles alongside his men which I wish we saw more of today.
