Horrible noise my fluval 206 is making. I recorded it on my phone so the audio is pretty quite so you may need to turn it up a little. A few days ago it was pretty much silent but has now developed a sort of rattle/hum sound like there's something wrong with the motor. I've check the impeller and the impeller shaft and everything is fine. Has anyone else experienced this?

This is a common problem with power filters. The impeller just needs to be cleaned & greased. Remove the impeller. Thoroughly wash & flush the impeller area. Remove the impeller shaft pin. Apply a liberal amount of Vaseline on the outer magnetic black portion of the impeller and on the shaft. This should be done every 2-3 years, or as the need arises. Good luck.

Hey mate. Not sure this is relevant now as it was a while since this video was posted but for anyone that gets one in the future.

These filters are silent unless you put you ear right on it. The problem of noise occurs due to air trapped in the filter. There's a couple of ways to release it but the best is to follow the instructions in the manual to the letter but it still can happen. It usually corrects itself in a few days but if not then shaking it slightly while running can release it. Some people have said that turning it upside down while running also does it. I personally just wait it out or strip down and make sure I do it without cutting corners :)

I have a 106 and it is dead silent. Take out the impeller and rinse it off. Thinly coat the black part of the impeller with Valvoline. Put it back together and enjoy the silence. This trick will get rid of noise in any filter 90% of the time.

Hi, Did You manage to get the problem sorted? I just bought Fluval 206 and its noisy. Had impeller changed in the shop, sounded better but when I got home put all the media in it just stated doing the same. Comparing to my old leaking Tetratec its a tractor.

Hi. When you say turn it upside down, do you mean turned off but with all the leads still attached? I have a brand new 206 that is making this noise. Thanks in advance.

all the fluvals 06 range at least make that much noise as standard. my internal fluval u3 was silent, you could not hear nothing at all.

Don't just clean the canister, there's a ball in the intake pipe if that gets clogged up it will restrict water flow which means your impeller wont spin efficiently causing that noise, how do I know, I have a 206 and keep shrimps, I have the intake covered with a adapted Fluval edge pre-filter sponge and forgot to clean it, which caused my 206 to sound like yours, it's clean now my 206 is silent.

the sound is coming from air traped in the impellor, it should come loose on its own or if not give it a shake turn it off or upside down

Same problem here on a new 206, was hoping it'd go away after a few days but after a week it's still the same. Already tried shaking, turning it off and on; nothing.
