This year the Visegrad Group celebrates its 30th birthday.
We have come a long way: we have joined NATO and the European Union. But above all, we have built up bonds of friendship among our four nations.
Cooperation between our countries dates back to the fourteenth century, and its present’s day chapter was opened by the democratic transition of the late ‘80.
Their vision of freedom soon became a reality. The next goal we set ourselves was equally ambitious: "to return to Europe".
On February 15, 1991, the Visegrad Declaration was signed.
Over the next decade, we joined NATO to strengthen our security.
Not long afterwards, the dream of many generations came true: we joined the European Union, where we work together and look after the interests of Central European countries.
Today, we are sharing our experiences with the Eastern Partnership and Western Balkans countries to support their own European aspirations.
The Visegrad Group is not only about politics, however. It is also the Visegrad International Fund, which since 2000 has helped finance nearly 6,000 projects from 39 countries. The beneficiaries of grants and scholarships from the Fund include students, artists, designers, cultural promoters and scientists.
For all these years of cooperation in the Visegrad Group, and for many more to come, we wish to thank our partners in this year of the Polish presidency: “Dziękujemy! Ďakujem! Köszönöm! Děkujeme!”
