How to stop an office chair from sinking - Quick and Cheap Fix!

It's really annoying when your office chair lowers itself over the course of the day. I have a quick and easy fix that anyone can do to solve this problem.

Had a similar issue. My fixes were to grease the piston - this worked for quite a while and kept the ability to adjust the height. My now permanent fix was to cut some pvc pipe to the correct length and drop it over the piston, works like a charm but requires a little more disassembly than your method.

I finally found an office chair I love (By the street Curb, because who can afford $300 for a really good chair. It was working great for about a year, and then start creeping down slower and slower. I was really worried I would have to buy a new chair. THIS WORKS

Nice idea, have a chair all lined up for next week to repair. And if it fails since I am heavy then I can reset it and use the clamp groves to line up my drill and insert a couple pins.

Thanks for this, my office chair is back to normal. Took about 5 minutes to add the hose clamp. Bought a package of assorted sized just to make sure i had the right one.

I was going crazy didnt want buy new cylinder, I did you method but I wraped electrical tape around spot then put clap on tight ( clap I had would not go small enough hence electrical tape), now it actual stay and dont drop. atlest no where as much for now, note i weight 100lbs. before I would sit in the chair and sit back and it would sink inch or 2, I would get up and it would pop back up, along slowly sinking. now it drop maybe 1/4th inch and stay put with no sinking, would of like to stopped the 1/4 inch going down when sitting back in the chair. much better then before I will do pvc method at somepoint

my top of the icing is if the clamp is slipping or too loose, just roll good amount of electrical tape and, hope that helps

For a non-craftsman, this is quite challenging. Tried it today, a friend told me, I had bought a hose clamp, which was too big. So, in conclusion: I don't know, if this works yet. So, cheap? definitely. But quick? Not for me, anyway.

!! PROBLEM FIX !!
Ig you remove the clip from the bottom of the cylinder and pull it out you can check if the rubber gasket (O-Ring) is broken :) The ballbearing and rubber gasket was broken on my chair and the crack in the gasket was letting the air out the bottom of the cylinder.
